A MODEL FOR THE FUTURE

A MODEL FOR THE FUTURE

We embrace Kate Raworth’s new economic mindset - Doughnut Economics. Her model proposes that instead of seeking endless Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, we pursue a thriving society - meeting the human rights of every person - in balance with our planetary boundaries.

We are talking to women who put into practice new ways of working in one or more of the Doughnut’s social foundations and/or ecological dimensions. They are leading action to ensure that we move towards the “safe and just space for humanity.”

OUTREACH

OUTREACH

In our first video series, we are bringing inspirational perspectives and work in the following sectors: Education and Research, Business & Enterprise, Communities and Art, Cities & Places and Government & Policies.

We are looking for women in countries without a very high Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI). The IHDI combines a country’s average achievements in health, education and income and “discounts” each dimension’s average value according to its level of inequality (see IHDI 2019 Report).

Due to limitations of translation and resources, we are focusing on women who speak English, Portuguese or Spanish and who have access to online connection/technology.

ABOUT US

ABOUT US

A number of people are passionate about the Learning From Women project:

Isabela Souza and Laura Somoggi co-designed the project and are leading on bringing it to life. Chris Taylor and Nick Ellerby are our speaking partners. Claire Maxwell, Heather Barker, Liz Goold, Marion Ragaliauskas, Mary Godfrey, Rick Trask, Sonia Mayor, Su Hemming, Susan Ralphs and Valerie Monti Holland are our critical friends. Charlotte Ellerby and Wallace Nogueira Santos Silva provided guidance on our visual identity. While Cecilia da Fonte, Amandine Goisbault are our video editors, Lucy Florah Atieno our sign language interpreter and Patricia Moura e Souza our translator.

We received seed funding from the Oasis Foundation, which promotes and encourages positive social change and social justice through applied Whole Person Learning approaches. The Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) has also provided in-kind support.

If this project speaks to your heart, join us in learning from women to reimagine the world.

You can:

o   nominate women who inspire you and who we should be talking with in the next series;

o   help to grow the project by introducing us to people that would be keen to contribute (financially or in-kind) so that we can hear from more women in more countries and develop a platform to connect and share their stories.
